ARE YOU WAITING OR DOING?

3/4/13 I was driving to work this morning and passed by a building store.  Outside on the sidewalk were several men waiting to be selected for some work this day.  I felt badly for those who wouldn’t get jobs  after waiting around for hours.  They were obviously eager to work but no one was picking them.
As a coach,of course, I was thinking of all kinds of ways they could be using that “waiting time” to aggressively get work that they needed.
Then it occurred to me that the example I was seeing was something that plagues attorneys.  Many feel that they have a great deal to offer and don’t understand why no one comes in the door.  Or, there is the fear that no one will come if they open a solo practice.
Over the years, I have found there are answers to these fears. Even in tough times, there is work for attorneys, albeit, it may not be in the most desirable or prestigeous  areas. A majority of the time, plain good old fashioned marketing techniques do the trick.  Sometimes, attorneys have unique problems or challenges that keep them from productive marketing.  But these can be uncovered and resolved.
So, as the optimists say “It’s all good” and it really is…..so take a look at yourself and see if you are just waiting or doing this week.

Here we are at the end of the first two months of the year.

2/25/13 Here we are at the end of the first two months of the year.  This is a great time to look back over the last months and see 1. What were your goals? 2. What was accomplished towards those goals?  3. Do your goals have to be updated?  4. Ask yourself:  am I getting my needs fulfilled? If there was one thing that could make my life better, what would that be?
A little soul searching couldn’t hurt at this point!!!

On President’s Day, as lawyers, what can we learn from these leaders?….

2/18/13 On President’s Day, as lawyers, what can we learn from these leaders?….Our friend Lincoln taught us to never give up.  My gosh, he was defeated so many times before he became president and yet knew his destiny was to lead the nation in a time of real peril.   He knew to keep his friends close and his enemies closer. He found satisfaction in following one path and we can learn from that.

Washington, on the other hand, knew when to quit.  He felt the nation was better lead by others after he got it going.  He, like Lincoln, had a call to leadership and when he decided he had done enough he left it to others.  He looked to his personel well being and gave it priority.  We need to do this also in our lives.

Now, I’m no historian(only in my book club) but these are the lessons I take away today on this President’s Day.

It’s almost Valentines Day….Give yourself a gift on February 14th of telling three people how much you think of them.

2/11/13 It’s almost Valentines Day….Give yourself a gift on February 14th of telling three people how much you think of them.  This may be your family but also your colleagues and friends.  Let them know how valuable they have been to you.  This will be one thing that you won’t regret when there is no more time to let people in your life know how you feel ( you know what I mean).  Valentine’s Day is such a great excuse for doing this kind of thing.  DON’T WASTE IT!!!

Got my webinar out to people last Tuesday. Hooray!!!!! Did you get your link?

2/4/13 Got my webinar out to people last Tuesday. Hooray!!!!! How are your New Year’s goals going? If you didn’t put them on your mirror in the bathroom, you have a 50% less chance of doing them.

1/28/13 How are your New Year’s goals going?  If you didn’t put them on your mirror in the bathroom, you have a 50% less chance of doing them.  If you have completed one or two, then ask yourself what is the next step in reaching maximum health or increased revenue or whatever your overall goal is.
Now write one more task that you will do this week on your mirror and this time IN YOUR CALENDAR.  I know this sounds simple and you think it will never work, but don’t be fooled…..WHERE YOUR ATTENTION FLOWS, RESULTS WILL GROW……corny but true…
Keep warm and happy and have a great week!!!!

Oh, my gosh, Has the flu hit you yet?

1/21/13  Oh, my gosh,  Has the flu hit you yet?  Hope you got the shot.  This is the time of year to review your health and set up some new goals.  You can’t be at the top of your game without good energy and that comes from good health.
The deal is to pick a small health goal to accomplish.  Think drink more water, not go to the gym five times a week.
When you have that task, write it down and put it by your other resolution that you made last week on your bathroom mirror.
Have you been putting off getting a physical?  Make the appointment.  Go to the dentist.  Yada Yada but you know its true……..

The Happiest of New Year to you. We have all survived the crush of Holiday parties and events and are busy back at work…..What is your new year’s resolution?

1/14/13  The Happiest of New Year to you.  We have all survived the crush of Holiday parties and events and are busy back at work…..What is your new year’s resolution?  More revenue, more fun, more family time?  Pick one thing and write it down and put it on your bathroom mirror.  Look at it every morning for a month and see what happens.  Let me know.
My one resolution is to get my Webinars up and running.  I have done the power point for the first one and now just need to do the recording.  I will be letting you all know how to link up. They are only 30 minutes and meant to be listened to while you have lunch or down time.  First one is ACEING THE NETWORKING EVENT.  Stay tuned……

Getting ready for the Holidays can be a real time management challenge.

12/17/12 Getting ready for the Holidays can be a real time management challenge.  Take a look at your calendar for the next two weeks.  Plan out where the major happenings are going to be in your time.  Be sure to give yourself a slot to wrap gifts and have wine or coffee with important people in your life.
They are called Holidays for a reason.  A time to rejoice in all that is holy in your life.  I won’t be blogging next week because I will be hanging out with my 2 kids and 5 grandchildren….they are my holy ones.
May you have wonder and joy in your life…..
